One week is enough to see the best of New Caledonia without rushing: a taste of Nouméa, a day on the lagoon, a wilderness day in the south and a few nights on the Isle of Pines.

Day 1: Arrive in Nouméa

Land at La Tontouta, transfer to Anse Vata (about an hour) and stretch your legs on the seafront promenade. Sunset drinks at Baie des Citrons.

Day 2: Culture and the city

Morning at the Port Moselle market, then the Tjibaou Cultural Centre. Late afternoon water taxi to Îlot Canard for a snorkel.

Day 3: Amédée Lighthouse

A full-day cruise to Amédée: climb the lighthouse, snorkel with turtles, lunch on the islet.

Day 4: The Great South

Hire a car or join a tour to Rivière Bleue, the drowned forest and Madeleine Falls. In winter (July–September), add a whale-watching trip.

Days 5–7: Isle of Pines

Fly or take the ferry to the Isle of Pines. Spend a day on the pirogue trip to the Oro natural pool, another lazing at Kuto and Kanumera, and climb Pic N'ga for sunset. Return to Nouméa on day 7, or connect directly from La Tontouta.

Got 10 days? Add a West Coast road trip to Bourail and the Heart of Voh, or two nights on Lifou if flights are running reliably.
