Ouvéa (Iaai) is a long, thin atoll in the north of the Loyalty Islands. One shore is a single beach about 25 km long facing a shallow lagoon; the other faces the open ocean with rugged cliffs.

Highlights

  • Mouli bridge at the island's southern tip, where you can watch turtles, rays and sometimes sharks pass through the channel below.
  • Lékiny cliffs and the shallow bay beneath them, best explored with a local guide at low tide.
  • Snorkelling and picnics on the Pléiades islets, part of the UNESCO-listed lagoon.
  • Kilometres of empty beach around Fayaoué for walking and swimming.
Flights resumed in September 2026. Air Calédonie restarted flights to Ouvéa's Hulup airport on 10 September 2026 after a suspension, now departing from La Tontouta, with schedules expanding gradually. Check the latest timetable before booking.
